Mad World

Finally! Someone uses the original fast tempo Tears For Fears version. I watched a million of these videos interpreted into ASL. Possibly a dozen. And they all use the Sad Sack depressing turtle-slow oh-I'm-dying-inside emotonally tortured Gary Jules version. OMG, the sadness, I can't take it.

Don't believe me?

1) bad
2) good
3) melodramatic
4) pathos, duo
5) uncertain
6) heartfelt and in English

Most are not worth comparing because they skip the whole point of the exercise of trying to match song to sign. Compare with number 6, if you like to see where students go wrong in transliterating English words and miss matching the concepts.

Question. "Their tears are filling up their glasses."

What kind of glasses? The kind you drink water from or the kind you wear on your nose in front of your eyes? Tears could fill up either kind.

"I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take."

What kind of hard? Rock hard, or difficult?

"Find," as in discover? Or does find mean "think?" "Take" as in grab? Or does "take" mean accept?

Children = kid. While kid = either joke or child. If you sign "tease" then you cannot mean "children."

Look through me is not the same as look back behind me. The first is transparent, the second is remembering, looking back to the past. Your "look" has to go through your other hand.

But this girl, Paigey,  knows what she's saying and she has the skill for the fast version. She finds it hard (as a rock) to hear. And she pats her little children down there on their little heads. (No kidding). Her dream is a D coming out of her head, and one her mad worlds is a weird world. Her tears fill up her glasses on her face.

She wins this contest that they didn't know they were in.

That video is mesmerizing. Not really knowing sign language, it is interesting how expressive it is (when you focus on it).

Here is a similar video, involving limited language and sign language, that I could see Troop participating in...

Even with the gap of communication, it is equally expressive!

Man, she's hot. I wasn't even focused on the sign language.
